Ollie was an incredibly special dog who captured the hearts of everyone he met. He was rescued from outback New South Wales, where he had suffered horrendous abuse at the hands of his previous owners. Despite his traumatic start to life, Ollie loved everyone and had an incredibly sweet and gentle nature.
When Ollie arrived in our care, he was just six months old and had extensive injuries requiring urgent veterinary attention. Over the months that followed, he recovered well, but it became clear that he would need major surgery to give him a life free from significant pain.
Throughout this time, Ollie was our founder’s constant shadow. He helped socialise scared puppies, showed that big dogs weren’t always scary, and accompanied her to the local TAFE to teach students about responsible pet ownership. Ollie would literally shake hands with everyone he met — even when a class formed a line to take turns, he happily obliged.
Ollie underwent the life-changing surgery but sadly suffered complications afterwards. To end his suffering, the heartbreaking decision was made to give him his angel wings. Ollie was just 12 months old, leaving behind countless broken hearts.
His story, however, didn’t end there.
To honour his memory and the incredible impact he had on those around him, Ollie’s Legacy Incorporated was established in 2021. His legacy lives on through every animal we rescue, every life we change and every second chance we give.
Ollie’s Legacy Incorporated acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.
