By adopting an animal, you are offering a homeless animal the opportunity for happiness and a forever family. We appreciate your interest in giving a homeless animal a second chance.
• We operate from a private residence located in Bendigo, Central Victoria.
• If you cannot proceed with the adoption within one week of submitting your application, we kindly request that you wait to apply until you are fully ready.
• Most of our communication is conducted via email. As our administration is managed by a single volunteer, we are unable to handle phone enquiries. If you do not respond to our emails or messages within 24 hours, we will move on to the next applicant. Please check your spam or junk email folder regularly to ensure you do not miss our correspondence.
Before completing the application form, please be aware of the following:
Interest expressed through online enquiries or other platforms, including email, does not constitute a formal application. Our application forms are specifically structured to allow us to assess each applicant fairly and efficiently against our criteria. To apply, please complete the relevant form linked in each animal's profile, providing as much detail as possible. This helps us understand the life you are offering to the pet.
If your application is successful, we will contact you by email to arrange a meet and greet.
If the meeting goes well, you will be invited to proceed with the adoption, complete the necessary paperwork and pay the adoption fee.
We offer a trial period to ensure both you and the animal are a good match. If the animal is returned during this trial, you will receive a refund in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined in the Adoption Agreement signed at the time of adoption. Even after the trial period, we remain dedicated to supporting your pet throughout its life. If your circumstances change and you need to return your pet—no matter how much time has passed—please reach out to us for assistance.
Don't forget to send us updates as we LOVE seeing our rescues in their forever homes.
Thank you for considering to adopt your new family member.
By adopting a dog, cat, puppy or kitten from a rescue group or shelter you are giving a homeless animal a second chance at happiness. This is one of the best things you can do to help the thousands of lost, stray and abandoned companion animals which end up in pounds every year across Australia.
Choosing to adopt a pet is a significant decision that enriches both your life and the life of your new companion. Before you adopt, consider factors like your daily schedule, financial readiness for pet care costs, and compatibility with existing pets or children. Our experienced team can provide guidance to ensure you find the perfect match for your lifestyle.
All pets adopted from us have been vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and given all the medical care they need. Adoption fees help to cover a small portion of these costs as well as the day-to-day care during their stay with us. In addition, many pets spend significant time in our care undergoing extensive vet treatment, surgery and training before they are ready for adoption.
We offer trial periods with every adoption to ensure the suitability of the match, and we are there to support you through the process. Post adoption we love to receive updates and see how our animals are going in their new homes. We remain committed to the animal throughout its life and provide a safety net if your circumstances change and you can no longer keep your pet.

Please email info@ollieslegacy.org.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We operate through a network of private foster homes and do not have a facility like a pound or animal shelter that you can walk through. Each available animal is posted on our Facebook page and on the Pet Rescue website where you can see their photos and learn all about them.
Once your application is submitted and reviewed you will generally be contacted through email within 48 hours to advise you of the outcome.
If our Adoption team doesn't feel that a particular animal is suitable for your circumstances, they may refuse the adoption. However, we have many wonderful animals waiting to find loving new homes, so if your application has been approved our team may suggest another pet that could be a better match.
Please refer to the animal's adoption profile for the adoption fee. Fees vary based on a range of factors and help cover the cost of the care and veterinary treatment the animals receive. Prior to adoption every animal is vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and given all medical care required.
The decision to adopt any animal is a big decision and for this reason, we do not allow people to adopt on behalf of somebody else or as a gift for a friend or family member. We ask that all persons responsible for the ongoing care of the pet be involved in the adoption process.
We simply don't have the manpower to keep a waitlist. Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page where all available animals are posted.
All of the animals in our care have either been rescued from a pound in Victoria or New South Wales or have been surrendered by the owner for various reasons. Such as they can no longer care for or have time for the animal, or they have had to move and cannot take the animal with them.
Of course! We are here to support you and our animals, so we don’t see adoption returns as failures, but rather as a great opportunity to learn more about our animals.
