fostering for ollie's legacy

Every day around Australia, thousands of dogs, puppies, cats and kittens wind up in pounds due to no fault of their own.  If these animals are left in these facilities for too long they will be euthanised to make room for more animals that are in the same position. Ollie's Legacy Incorporated helps rescue these animals and rely on our foster carers to provide safe and loving temporary homes until they are adopted.

Becoming a foster carer is a very rewarding experience as not only do you care for and help an animal in need, but you are also given a sense of fulfilment knowing you have played a special part in their journey to adoption and a forever home.

REVIEW

Your completed application will be reviewed by our Foster Carer Coordinator and if successful, you will be invited to an informal meeting. This is a great opportunity for us to meet you in person and vice versa. If you wish to proceed a quick property check may be arranged. This visit is to ensure the safety of your foster animal and should in no way be seen as a potential critique of your home.

WELCOME

After the property check, you will be warmly welcomed into our community. You will receive our Foster Carer Handbook and be added to our private Facebook Page.

GETTING STARTED

When a potential foster animal match is found the Foster Coordinator will contact you.  You are welcome to put your hand up to foster other animals that are promoted within the group.

PLACEMENT

During the foster placement you will get to know your foster animal and provide feedback on their personality, likes, dislikes and the type of home they are best suited to. This information is used to create their adoption profile which helps find their forever home.

ADOPTION

When your foster animal is adoption ready you will help us review adoption applications and attend meet and greets if you so wish. Some of our carers prefer not to attend these meetings and that is completely fine. If you find that you cannot part with your foster, you will have the opportunity to adopt them, however the same adoption process applies.

Rescue groups can only save an animal if there is a foster carer available. Without carers animals face uncertain futures in the pound. Foster carers are their lifeline.

People from all walks of life including students, retirees, singles, and families with the common goal of helping animals.

Ollie's Legacy pays for all veterinary care, professional training or specific items which the animal may require. Food, kitty litter and supplies like bedding, bowls, toys etc. are available for foster carers to use if there are donations on hand. At times it may be necessary for carers to provide their own items.

Typically, between 2 weeks and a few months however as each case is different timelines vary. Each case is discussed in detail before a placement begins.

Carers are welcome to apply to adopt their foster animal however final approval will be given by the Adoption Coordinator. Carers are expected to pay the same adoption fee as the general public.

That’s okay, thanks for giving it a go! Please contact the Foster Coordinator as soon as you make this decision so we can start looking for another foster home for the animal.
