All of the animals in our care have either been rescued from a Victorian or New South Wales pound or have been surrendered by their owner. Reasons for surrendering their pets may be that they can no longer care for or have time for them, or they are moving and cannot take their pet with them.
Each animal in our care undergoes thorough veterinary checks, is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, and receives regular worming and flea treatments. Additionally, some animals require specialised veterinary care like dental work, orthopedic procedures, or other surgeries to ensure they enjoy the highest quality of life possible. Our veterinary expenses are substantial, and adoption fees play a crucial role in covering these costs.
There is no time limit to the length of time it takes for an animal to be adopted. We have had animals stay in our care for over two years until their perfect home has been found. We do have animals who stay in our care permanently due to health reasons, behavioural challenges or other factors influencing their suitability to be rehomed.
We will only ever consider euthanising an animal if they are in a great deal of pain, have an un-treatable disease or display a temperament which is deemed a high risk to people or other animals.
Yes, we are a registered charity with DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient status). This means that donations over $2 are tax deductible and receipts can be issued. Follow the below link to our charity profile:
OLLIES LEGACY INCORPORATED CHARITY PROFILE
Ollie's Legacy is run by a tiny team of volunteers and as such we simply do not have the resources to man a phone. It is more time efficient to run operations via email.
We operate through a network of private foster homes and do not have a facility (like a pound or animal shelter) that you can walk through. If you are interested in seeing our animals they can be viewed on our Facebook page and on the Pet Rescue website.
Ollie’s Legacy Incorporated acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.
